Final Beta release (hopefully) for V3.3 (Beta5)

The one thing that always surprises me is once you have the basic prototype working how much work it really is to make it production quality.  My management always struggles with that in my RL job.

Thanks to the close work of a good colleague (you know how you are!) this release is amazing.  The interface was refined significantly in beta3 and with this release there is a ton of interface issues cleaned up as well as a complete reorganizing of the color choices into a much more coherent system.

There are a list of things that i cleaned up that have been bugging me personally as i used the lumipro in my own work as well as customer feedback.  I've addressed most of them in this beta5 release as well
  1. Authentication system added for future product stuff.  we'll see if i use it but it allows users to wear the hud and select help about and it broacasts an crypto signed message on a secret chat channel that i can then use for handing out free goodies in the future.
  2. Rotation of the sit ball is now repetative.  just click and hold and it rotates
  3. REM type cast checks and doesn't report errors with the talent TPs or logs out
  4. no more derezzing the projectors or sitballs after 4 days.  They announce and become visible.  This was causing problems during set development that took longer than 4 days
  5. the backup server deals with correct color names
  6. help->lighting details reports the correct model's colors, not just the owners colors.
  7. Joystick steering the projector now has an icon vs transparent to address a viewer bug

I've significantly reworked the color interface.  I'm going to not say another word and see if you all can figure it out.  Please send me your feedback!!

LUMIPro Beta 3.3

Calling all LUMIPro users.  I'd like your help making the next release amazing.  That is what the beta program is about.  This is my 6th beta program over 4 years for LUMIPro and when this is released i'll call it V3.3 (V3.2 is whats out now).   After reviewing this video, if you want to be part of the beta drop me a note and i'll pass you the HUD.  The beta huds will auto update as beta2,3 etc release and then will update to the final version 3.3 (cool huh?).  :)

I've been thinking long and hard about whats next for LUMIPro.  After recording a few of my own videos as well as talking with other customers, frankly I decided it was time to expand upon the use of color in lighting.

I studied several options for color pickers and got pretty much every color matching hud i could get my hands on.  Talked with several people who use them for feedback.

Realizing that we're dealing with a very broad spectrum of people online from beginners to techies to RL photographers, i've been experimenting with a color user interface that made sense.  After much discussion including discussing with a couple RL theaterical lighting friends, I decided to include several of the RL color gel catalogs as part of the user interface and a more simplg RGB interface for the techies.  I frankly like the color catalogs as there is 40+ years of picking these colors based on their success in real situations.

So I'm now offering beta1 to existing LUMIPro customers for those that want to partipicate in its development.  If you are new to the beta process I've used for LUMIPro i release a beta1 (this release) and then with user reported feedback on the interface as well as any bugs they report i make tweaks and release a beta2, beta3, etc until I feel like we've got the right approach.  My goal is to get this release out some time in september and follow with a 3.4 before the holidays.

Know issues:  The save/restore and backup server does not work with the new color pickers.  I'm working on that now for beta2.

beta is closed and 3.2 is released today

I just cant thank beta testers enough.  Beyond little bugs and what not, they see things that I just miss in therms of thier user experience and by telling me know where they struggle many times we can make a better product together.  Thank you again!

LUMIPro 3.2 Beta2

First of all i want to thank everyone who has given very positive feedback to the 3.2 beta.  The sit ball feature has been very well received as well as the work with the machinima eye gazing feature.

Beta2 is being released with the feedback from Beta1
  • Glow removed from sitball
  • Text on sitball never shows while sitting
  • Some little math adjustments in the height of a sit ball to give a better chance of having the AVI's feet on the ground based on AVI height.
  • Sitball "spars" have been made a little wider for easier clicking
  • Falloff menu has is now recursive (like the others)
  • /43 <animation filter> now automatically brings up a dialog of those new animation
Beta2 is release candidate and unless someone finds a problem this is what i'll be releasing.  Wear your beta1 to receive the beta2 update.  Please let me know ASAP if you find something!

Thanks again everyone!  Couldn't do it without you!

Time for Beta5!

New features for LUMIPro in beta!

Here are the new features for LUMPro 3.2 Beta
  • Integrated pose stool.   A pose stool that keeps the same design concepts of lumipro.  After studying other products, talking with several people, and making 9 months of prototypes I think I finally have what i think is a good solution.  Get the beta hud and give it a try
  • Revised HUD minimize.  I've heard many customers discuss that the minimized hud still consumes desktop space (textures were just taken transparent but were still there) vs the new hud as a full blown hide that frees up the screen area.
  • Revised pose backup/restore system.  The pose backup "server" was a prim that prior capture the animation catalogs just in case SL lost itsmind or the hud needed to be reset.  The new solution provides this plus actually copies backup copies of animations to the server.  Thus if for either SL just crashing or even future upgrades, you can just recover everything from animations to animation classificaitons to presets with a single "restore" operation.
  • Machinimast's eye gazer.  The eye gazer released in 3.1 has had great feedback but as me and others experiments with machinima we realized that status eye position isn't what we want.  This new system allows typing /45 <time in seconds>|<eye movement left in right in degrees>  (example /45 2|40 would move the eyes in a full range of random positions between -40 deg and +40 deg every 2 seconds.  This gives great eye movement needed for interesting things like avatars dancing.
Are you an existing LUMIPro owner and want the HUD?  Since i'll be traveling RL contact colleen Criss.

The purpose of a beta release is to have the most avid LUMIPro users get an early look at new features and actually comment on the development and direction of those features.  It helps me frankly in finding bugs and keeps the product quality high.

Please give me your feedback by 12/8 with a goal of a production release 12/15.  The HUD will update if i release follow-on beta releases.  If you receive an updated beta hud, please check this blog for details.

Please apologize again for the video below crapping out at 7:30.

beta4 released into production

I'm happy to announce that we released beta4 into production!  thank all of you so much for your feedback.  If it wasn't for you lumipro would be no where near as good as the collective feedback everyone gives me.  xo
